It is our experience that when clients are given healthy interior design or architectural choices, they always choose to do less harm to their breathing, to landfill, to families and to the communities and creatures from where the materials were sourced. We see our role as reversing irresponsible design trends by introducing clients to safe technological material advancements and the joys of re-using old faithfulls such as reclaimed timbers and original bare brick. It's a win-win all the way.
FreeSpace Design aspires to see the ethical Cradle to Cradle® design philosophy and methodologies reach commercial and residential interiors, big brand offices and workplaces in London and around the world. We are committed to encouraging businesses and clients to take healthy design steps for themselves, their families, workers and source communities.
This is the FreeSpace Design heart. Beautiful Interior Architecture for Healthy People & Planet.
FreeSpace Design is uniquely equipped and committed to:
a) designing for the physical health of people and planet
Director, Chaline Church has been a Founding Partner of health clinics eg Ergotec Health in London, recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva etc for over 19 years and understands how physical health impacts quality of life. If we all choose non-toxic, sustainable and circular products now, the Earth, our lives and our children's lives stand a real chance of a healthy future.
b) designing for our mental health
Chaline completed her award-winning Masters degree in Interior Architecture & Design, investigating Interior Architecture to support and optimise our mental health. She won several awards for her work, lectured and was published for the third time in 2019. Our interiors organisation and material toxicities directly affect mental health. It is imperative that we make choices that are constructive for human health with the materials we choose and how we architecturally arrange them.
c) introducing clients to suppliers of beautiful, practical and healthy interior design Cradle to Cradle Certified® products, all verified sustainable and rigorously certified for material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship and social fairness.
d) excellence in design and strategic detail
Chaline has won multiple awards and has been recognised repeatedly in industry as highly creative, solutions-driven and client-focussed throughout her design, marketing, licensing and directorship positions for some of the largest brands in the world, consulting for companies from retailers to banks, international broadcasters such as Disney, Warners and Universal to the Environment Agency. FreeSpace Design offers a truly healthy design choice that is literally life-giving for people and planet, no matter how big or small your project is.
e) providing Physiotherapy-lead, authentic ergonomic audits and layouts
Through Ergotec Health, Chaline is able to introduce evidence-based, health-optimized audits and assessments of workspaces and homes to enable interiors to work functionally, ergonomically, healthily and safely. We always say, "Don't believe what they say, believe what they prove". So, if it says 'sustainable' on the tin, but has no independent audits to back that up, rather choose the most science-based product, namely Cradle to Cradle Certified®. If they say they do Ergonomic workspace audits, ask if their teams are HCPC registered Physios. If they say they are green or eco or environmental interior architects, ask what evidence-based certified safe, sustainable and circular materials they use. If they don't say Cradle to Cradle Certified® then it's probably greenwash or spin. Ask for proof before signing.
